The PhD Journey:
More Than Just Research
I have a blue print in my mind but I never limit the paths. I decided to do a PhD as it would give me the opportunity to quickly gather experience in problem solving, project management, project coordination, and cross-platform cooperation. What I didn’t expect from this journey are the stress management development, interpersonal relationship practice, and immense support coming from my mentor, colleagues, friends, and family. I have learned so much more than I expected.
The first day of my graduate study, I started a note pad with the title “Lessons Learned“. “If you don’t know, ask.“ was the first sentence I put down, followed by “Don’t take any answers for granted.“ No one knows everything, so I would ask the professionals if I don’t know. No one knows everything, so I would evaluate the answers that I got.
Independent and critical thinking helped me develop my problem solving, project management, and decision making ability to a different level. The best acknowledgement of my development is the trust from the faculty, the department, my supervisor, colleagues, and supporting professionals.
